Accessibility for STEM in Higher Education

The 2025 UC Irvine "Accessing STEM and Higher Education" event focused on making higher education more accessible to students with disabilities, particularly those who are blind or have low vision. Professor Stacy Branham shared her journey in accessible technology and highlighted the lack of digital accessibility courses in computer science programs. Dr. Nicholas Giudice emphasized the importance of time management, self-advocacy, and involvement in the design of accessible technology for blind students in STEM. Panelists discussed their preferred methods for representing math equations, shared experiences with accommodations and emphasized self-advocacy, independence, and the value of community support.
